Paul Davis is resigning as MHA for Topsail-Paradise.

At the Paradise Double Ice Complex, surrounded by supporters, Davis says his time in political life is over.

Davis’ resignation is effective Nov. 2, just three days before the next sitting of the House of Assembly. A byelection will have to be called 60 days from that date.

The former premier and provincial PC leader ruled out a run in the 2019 federal election. He says his health is good, but the time is right for his exit.

Davis’ wife Cheryl Davis, a councillor with the town of Conception Bay South, says she doesn’t see herself running for the PC nomination in the coming byelection, but she says you can never say never in politics.
