SYDNEY, N.S. — Police are continuing the search for a Sydney senior who as of Friday had been missing for 16 days.

Neighbours of Allister T. MacNeil, 69, of Morrison Road, contacted police after not having seen or heard from him in more than a week.

“The neighbours hadn’t seen him or his vehicle in or around the property since Nov. 6,” said Desiree Magus, spokesperson for the Cape Breton Regional Police Service.

MacNeil has family in the area that has not heard from him since that time as well.

“It would be out of character that someone wouldn’t have seen him within that amount of time,” Magnus said. “We are concerned for his well-being.”

Police are also trying to locate MacNeil’s vehicle – a dark blue 2018 Ford Escape with license plate No. EEB154 —to have a base area to where to search for the missing man.

In the first two days of the search police followed up on all of the places MacNeil would be seen or frequent, information provided from family and friends.

“We don’t have a ‘last known location’ so it’s not like we can go out and do any kind of search,” Magnus said.

In an earlier story in the Cape Breton Post, police said there is no concern or anything to indicate MacNeil has met with foul play.

Police are continuing to look for help from the public. Anyone with information on MacNeil’s whereabouts, or who has seen his vehicle is asked to contact Cape Breton Regional Police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers, 902-562-8477.
