Police in western Newfoundland are on the hunt for whoever is driving a car suspected of being filled twice with gasoline stolen during a cross-island adventure Thursday morning.
At around 6:15 a.m., a man entered the Orange Store gas station in Whitbourne and departed without paying for his merchandise. The man entered the passenger side of an older model purple Mazda car that was last seen heading west on the Trans-Canada Highway.
At around 9:40 a.m., Deer Lake RCMP received a report of the same vehicle at the Western Petroleum gas station at Hampden Junction on the Trans-Canada Highway. A man had pumped gas into the Mazda and allegedly departed without paying.
Officers from the Deer Lake detachment and RCMP Traffic Services made a patrol. The vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and did not stop for police.
The vehicle and occupants are believed to be in the Corner Brook/Bay of Islands area at this time, according to the RCMP.
The police, including the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Corner Brook, are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the occupants and locating the vehicle.
