A staff member at a Conception Bay South school has been suspended following an incident that’s being investigated by police, The Telegram has learned.

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District confirmed Monday that they were informed about an incident that happened the week before last involving “a staff member” at Admiral’s Academy, the new school located on the Conception Bay Highway in Kelligrews, formerly C.B.S. Elementary

In an email to The Telegram, the district said there were complaints made towards the staff member, alleging “inappropriate verbal and physical interactions with students of a non-sexual nature.”

It went on to say that the person has been placed on leave and the matter has been referred to the RNC.

The Telegram contacted the RNC, but the media relations office was closed Monday due to the Discovery Day holiday and the officer on duty in the general office had no information about the incident.

The district indicated that the parents of the students involved in the complainants have been contacted.

“The safety and security of students and staff is of the utmost concern for the district,” the emailed statement from the district said. “While the matter is being investigated, the district is unable to provide further comment."
