BADGER, N.L. — There was a brief moment of panic as Natasha Card arrived at the bottom of the hill at her family’s hobby farm on Friday evening, March 15.

Garl’s Farm, outside of Badger, has some horses, chickens and a donkey, Card said.

“We got to the base of the road to go into the farm and I had my other sister-in-law with me and she noticed the smoke, and I tell you, I’ve never felt fear like I did that evening,” Card told The Central Voice on Monday, March 18.

The moment, fortunately, was short lived.

Several family members keep campers on the property year-round and spend a lot of time there as soon as the snow is gone.

Card explained there are three campers in a row. The one in the middle caught on fire and was lost. The Badger Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and managed to keep the blaze from going any further.

Card said she realized the barn, which is located on the other side of the road from the campers, was unharmed as she got closer.

“It was still scary but not as bad as it could have been,” she said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, Card said.

“Thank God the barn and the animals are all ok,” she said.
