BAY ROBERTS, N.L. — Shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, Bay Roberts RCMP and Police Dog Services responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence on Springfield Road in South River.

When police arrived on scene, they found a residence had been broken into but the suspect had fled. There was no one home at the time. A neighbour who witnessed the break-in confronted the suspect, at which point he was assaulted by the suspect. The man was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released.

Police are searching for a male suspect who is described as 5'8" to 5'10", 150-160 lbs with scruffy facial hair and wearing dark clothing at the time of the offence.

Police are asking residents of Springfield Road who saw anyone matching that description on Friday night to contact Bay Roberts RCMP at 709-786-2118. Residents are also asked to check their security cameras and dash cams.

The matter remains under investigation.
