A car was moderately damaged and a fire hydrant was cracked off during a single-vehicle collision with an embankment on Brookfield Road in St. John’s early Thursday morning.
When firefighters and police arrived at about 4:30 a.m., the car was sitting empty with one of its doors open and the driver was nowhere to be found. A report from the scene indicates that two people fled the area on foot following the incident but that has not been confirmed by police.
The broken fire hydrant was lying in the wet grass behind the damaged car.
RNC patrol vehicles could be seen cruising the area in an apparent attempt to locate the driver.
More details will be provided as they become available.
