CARBONEAR, N.L. — Members of the Poseidon Swim Club in Carbonear were part of a provincewide initiative over the weekend that raised over $49,000 for cancer patients in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Swim for Hope was held Friday, Feb. 15. Locally, swimmers from Poseidon raised $4,223.25 to support the Dr. H Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, a charity that supports cancer centres across the province. Poseidon swimmer Kaitlyn Hall accounted for almost a quarter of that total, herself raising $1,010.
Swimmers started completing laps that evening and continued overnight for 12 hours total. The event has raised over $2 million since it first started, and the funds raised in 2019 more than doubled the initial goal of $20,000.
