Traffic is being affected in Stephenville to areas on the Port au Port Peninsula this summer as ongoing road improvements take place.
Already, replacement of older culverts has been done in many areas on routes 460, 463 and 490 and crews were busy last week putting the first layer of pavement on some of these cutouts, resulting in traffic being backed up for short periods.
It’s all part of a larger paving project in the region, according to the Department of Transportation and Works in a release.
Nortech Construction Co. Ltd. out of St. John’s was awarded a contract valued at about $3.8 million to perform asphalt and culvert work in the Stephenville and Port au Port Peninsula areas on these routes.
The work is scheduled to be completed around mid-October.
