MOUNT PEARL, N.L. — An exploding motor had firefighters responding to the Country Ribbon feed facility on Topsail Road in Mount Pearl Tuesday evening just before 6 p.m.

The conveyor motor was located near the top of one of the silos at the site and there was concern that fire may have made its way to one of the grain silos. Grain dust, in high concentrations, can be explosive if exposed to an ignition source.

As a precaution, firefighters raised a ladder to the top of the silo, with a hose attached. Two firefighters in breathing apparatus waited at the bottom in case a fire broke out and they had to make the climb to the top.

An employee of the facility eventually confirmed that, what could have been smoke in the area, was actually just grain dust and the scene was cleared.

There were no injuries.
