FLOWER'S COVE, N.L. – Another grand homecoming on the Great Northern Peninsula was held this past week in the Straits communities of Flower's Cove and Nameless Cove.

From July 30 to Aug. 4, the neighbouring communities played host to the 2019 Flower's Cove and Nameless Come Home Year.

Marilyn Whalen, chair of the Flower's Cove/Nameless Cove Come Home Year committee, spoke to The Northern Pen last Wednesday.

She was glad to see the committee's organizational work paying off.

"It's been a swell time," Whalen said. "We've worked hard but we don't mind all the hard work. It's worth it."

Approximately 600 people registered for the event. About 400 traveled home for the event, including people from as far away as Florida, Virginia, Alberta and British Columbia.

It was a full slate of events throughout the week, kickstarted with registration and the parade on Tuesday afternoon.

Games for young and old were held throughout the week, while local musicians from the Great Northern Peninsula provided entertainment most every night.

Other popular events included the bonfire night, tours at the Thrombolites and White Rocks, softball and a Christmas parade. And that's a mere sample of what was planned.
