HOLYROOD, N.L. — Holyrood council unanimously denied an application to develop a cannabis production facility on Salmonier Line.
The decision was made March 19. The application concerned a property at 177-179 Salmonier Line. According to a real estate listing, the 15-acre property is undeveloped and runs along a river. Its listed price on the market is almost $250,000.
Currently, the property is zoned residential medium density (RMD). Coun. Kevin Costello, chairman of the planning and development committee for the Town of Holyrood, explained setting up a cannabis production facility is not a permitted or discretionary use under the municipality’s development regulations.
“We put forth this recommendation to refuse the application based on the grounds that this area would need to be rezoned from RMD to light industrial, and we felt this is not a proper area for light industrial land-use,” Costello said prior to council’s vote.
