BAY ROBERTS, N.L. — An unoccupied home in Shearstown was completely decimated by fire last night, Oct. 17.

Bay Roberts Fire Chief Rick Edmunds told the Compass a call came in at 8:07 p.m. that a home was fully consumed in flames.

“We responded to the call and sure enough the house was fully engulfed,” he said. “We had 27 members, a good water supply, but by the time we got to the house it was fully engulfed and we knocked it down. The house is totally destroyed.”

Edmunds said the home was a rental property and no one was living in it at the time of the fire.

RCMP had the road closed to traffic for over two hours while the firefighters controlled the blaze.

Edmunds said a RCMP fire investigator was on the scene this morning and at this time the cause is still undetermined.
