Illegal gaming charges dropped against former Sheshatshiu chief

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. — All charges against Andrew Penashue and his co-accused Mary Gregoire were dropped in Happy Valley-Goose Bay court on Nov. 19.

They had been charged with allegedly running an illegal gaming house from a shed in Sheshatshiu following an RCMP raid on Sept. 28, 2018. They were facing charges including illegally operating a gaming house, operating video lottery terminals without the permission of the Atlantic Lottery Corp., and three weapons-related charges.

Penashue, a former Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation chief, was scheduled to go to trial from Nov. 26-28 and Gregoire was scheduled to return to court on Nov. 26. Those dates have now been vacated.
