A major fire has destroyed an industrial warehouse at a Fairview Investments company site on the Trans-Canada highway early Sunday morning.
Multiple callers to 911 reported explosions from the site at about 2 a.m. and when firefighters with the St. John’s Regional fire department arrived on scene, they found a large warehouse fully involved in flames.
Platoon chief Craig Cox said firefighters from five stations were fighting the blaze and that water supply was a problem. Water had to be shuttled from a nearby pond to the fire scene by a pumper and water tanker.
The approximately 25-by-35 meter building held construction materials and there were initial fears that there might be explosives inside as well. Several vehicles stored nearby were also damaged. Cox also said there was fuel stored in the vicinity but that the tanks had been cooled and were not a danger.-This story has been edited to correct that the site did not belong to Farrell’s Excavating-
