ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A 51-year-old Mount Pearl man suspected of robbing a convenience store and attempting to rob a bank on Wednesday has waived his right to a bail hearing.
Robert Murray made a court appearance in St. John's Thursday morning, where the Crown indicated it was opposed to his release from custody.
Murray opted to forego a bail hearing and will make his next appearance in provincial court next week via video from Her Majesty's Penitentiary.
RNC officers attended the Marie's Mini Mart store on Dunn's Road in Mount Pearl just after 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, to a report of a robbery. The suspect had reportedly threatened the female clerk before getting away with cash and goods.
About 20 minutes later, officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery of the Royal Bank location on Commonwealth Avenue.
Police say the same man tried to hold up the bank and assaulted a female employee with a weapon before escaping.
RNC officers say they located Murray in a vehicle a short while later and he initially refused to stop for them before he was eventually arrested.
Murray is facing charges of robbery, attempted robbery, assault with a weapon (though police have not disclosed the alleged weapon), uttering threats, failing to stop for police and two counts of breaching court orders.
