Beginning around 9:30 p.m. Friday, Operation Impact resulted in a string of arrests.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is participating in Operation Impact until Oct. 15 as part of a nationwide initiative focusing on traffic safety compliance.
A roadside check in the Conception Bay South (C.B.S) area at 9:30 p.m. resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old man. Police say the man had a handgun and ammunition, and charged the man with several firearms offences. The man was held for court.
Just 20 minutes later during another roadside check, a driver fled, striking one of the officers.
Police say the man was later arrested and held for court to answer charges of assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, flight from police, and several Highway Traffic Act offences.
It’s unclear whether the next event is related, but by 10:20 p.m. the report says patrol officers responded to a call of an assault in progress on a highway in C.B.S.
The report says officers were in the area, and arrested a 40-year-old man for assault causing bodily harm, and assault on the responding officers. The man was held for court.
