ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Police are not saying yet if the murder victim on Bond Street in St. John’s was shot or stabbed.
“Major crime is actively involved in this investigation,” RNC media relations officer Const. James Cadigan told The Telegram Tuesday. “Certain pieces of information, if released, would hinder (the investigators’) progress.”
Cadigan said investigators have been working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death, but that won’t be revealed, as it’s crucial to the investigation.
A 23-year-old man was killed as a result of an incident outside 129 Bond St. in downtown St. John's around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
While police are not releasing any other details, witnesses told The Telegram that the man was seen holding his neck after a commotion with another group of people. He later died of his injuries.
Investigators are gathering information and no arrests have been made.
Cadigan said police hope to get some help from the public.
He said there is a possibility people in surrounding areas may have seen something.
“It’s quite a tight-knit area and someone might have seen something in the surrounding areas leading up to the time this happened,” Cadigan said. “If anyone was around and saw something, it might lead us in the right direction.”
Police are asking anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage to contact them at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
