KIPPENS, N.L. — A hour-long road safety check by the Bay St. George RCMP in Kippens today, April 25, resulted in police issuing 24 citations for various offences.

Members of the detachment set up the safety checkpoint on the main road through Kippens at a location known locally as Doucette’s Bog, near Doucette’s Pond. Between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. they checked about 200 drivers.

A variety of Highway Traffic Act violations were encountered, including failure to produce valid driver's licenses, registrations and/or insurances; failure to comply with license restrictions; failure to comply with regulations for child safety restraints; motor vehicle defects; and seatbelt infractions.

The RCMP remind motorists it is their responsibility to monitor registration and insurance expiry dates and have all vehicle documentation and their driver's license readily accessible while operating a motor vehicle.

Police said in a prepared release that motorists will encounter an increase in road safety checks in the future as the RCMP are committed to ensuring safety on roadways within the Bay St. George region.
