BOTWOOD, N.L. — The process to build a 20-bed protective care unit at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre in Botwood is another step closer.
A public tender has been issued for the project.
According to a news release from the provincial government, it’s anticipated the tender will be awarded in June with work to start this summer.
The 1,505 square-metre, single storey extension at the health care centre will include private bedrooms, quiet rooms, dining space, activity space, a wander garden for outdoor daily activities, and an additional 10 parking spaces.
The extension will operate as part of the existing health care centre, the release notes.
“As a resident of Botwood I can speak personally to the quality of work being done by health care professionals at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre and the enhanced care that will be made possible once construction is complete,” Exploits MHA Jerry Dean said.
“The care of our seniors in long-term care is a priority for this government and I’m happy to see progress on the extension moving ahead without delay.”
The Botwood protective care unit is one of three long-term care projects in central Newfoundland.
The successful proponent to design, build, finance and maintain 60-bed long-term care homes in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor will be announced in the coming weeks, the release indicated.
