SAVAGE COVE, N.L. — Savage Cove come home year was in full swing on Aug. 8 as people came from near and far to celebrate and make memories.

Held from Aug. 5-11, the events include fun for all ages.

Adult events include everything from dances to duck races; bingo to a bon fire; ball hockey to a softball tournament; a church service to a local talent night.

There were also plenty of activities for children, such as paint classes, picnics, face painting, a jelly bean hunt, a big bouncy castle and a Christmas supper, complete with a visit from the famous man in red.

Judy Way helped organize the come home year. The hard work the committee has put in over the past two years is paying off, she said when contacted by phone on Aug. 8.

“We had between 400 and 500 people taking part in our opening ceremonies. That was amazing,” Way said.

The population of the community is between 120-140 people, she said.

“We have fireworks and a bon fire tonight and other activities right up until Sunday,” she said.

Committee chairperson Madonna Coates agreed with Way that the events that have taken place so far have been well attended. Everyone is enjoying themselves, she said, and are having a great time.

“I’m pleased to see everything going well. There have been a lot of people around. We have people here from as far away as Louisiana. It’s just been jam packed with things for everyone to do,” Coates said.
