STEPHENVILLE, N.L. — The Bay St. George RCMP made two arrests for impaired driving on Friday and early Saturday and arrested another driver outstanding warrant on Friday.

It was about 9:30 p.m. on Friday that police conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Stephenville Crossing and arrested a 76-year-old man from the community for impaired driving.

The following morning, at approximately 4:45 a.m., police found an intoxicated 36-year-old man in care and control of a motor vehicle on Oceanview Drive in Degrau and arrested him for impaired driving.

Both men had their driver’s licences suspended and vehicles impounded, were released from custody and will appear in court later.

Bay St. George RCMP said it was about 1 a.m. on Friday that members observed a suspicious vehicle parked on Gallant Street Extension in Stephenville.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, did not have a valid registration or insurance, so tickets were issued under the Highway Traffic Act and his vehicle was impounded.

The investigation revealed the man had an outstanding warrant with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary. Police arrested the man and transferred him to the RNC Corner Brook for a court appearance.
