ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — When Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers arrived at the scene of an attempted armed robbery at Walsh's Store in St. John's Wednesday evening, they found the suspect restrained by a customer inside the St. Clare Avenue convenience store.

The suspect, a 36-year-old woman, was arrested for robbery and disguise with intent. The RNC's investigation determined that the accused was involved in two other robberies that occurred in late July and early August, which led to further charges of robbery and a count of robbery with violence. She'll appear before a provincial court judge in the morning.

The RNC's overnight report does not make mention of any male suspect in the case.

A video provided to The Telegram by a witness shows the female suspect being taken into custody.

EARLIER STORY

An attempted armed robbery was thwarted Wednesday night and two people are in custody after the store operator apparently locked one of the perpetrators inside the store.

A witness told The Telegram that the two suspects, a male and a female, were seen talking just before 8 p.m. outside Walsh's Store on St. Clare Avenue when the female entered the store and was subsequently locked inside by the clerk. The male suspect then ran up to the door and started banging on it before police arrived and took the two into custody.

At least five RNC patrol vehicles were on scene when The Telegram arrived.

There were no injuries in the incident.

More details will be provided as they become available.
