HARBOUR GRACE, NL — A Cavendish woman accused of conspiring to sell her mother’s cancer medication has pleaded not guilty.
Emily Marie Williams is facing charges of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and counselling an indictable offence.
Williams’ matter was scheduled for election or plea on Wednesday morning, Mar. 7, where it was stated that Williams and her lawyer were prepared to proceed with not guilty pleas. Her full-day trial is now scheduled for July 31 at 10 a.m. in Harbour Grace.
The 39-year-old was allegedly part of a two-person operation in Cavendish, alongside Lewis Sooley, who served as a middleman to connect Williams with another person to sell hydromorphone – the drug used by Williams’ mother. Sooley plead guilty to similar charges and was sentenced to just over two years in jail in August of 2017.
Allegations against Williams have not been proven in court, though the facts presented in Sooley’s case went into great detail about her alleged role in the matter.
The selling of hydromorphone allegedly took place throughout the majority of 2016, with charges initially laid against Williams and Sooley in January of 2017.
