One woman was rescued after her sailboat capsized on Three Island Pond Saturday afternoon.
Michelle O’Dea had gone out for a run in the small boat when a gust of wind toppled the craft and it eventually completely overturned. O’Dea was unable to right the boat and was left standing on the overturned hull and stranded in the middle of the pond.
A concerned resident of the area noticed the unfolding scene and notified the St. John’s Regional fire department of the incident. Another neighbour also saw what was happening and went out in his speedboat to assist the woman. He took her aboard and brought her back to shore to waiting firefighters, paramedics and police.
When rescuers asked if she was injured, she laughed and told them: “I’m fine except for my pride!”
O’Dea said she and her husband would go out later in their own motorboat to retrieve the capsized vessel.
