A 33-year-old Port au Port East man is facing charges of impaired driving and breach of a court order for being under the influence of alcohol outside his residence.
A press release from the RCMP said the charges came about after members of the Bay St. George RCMP, while out on patrol in Kippens about 3:25 a.m. on Thursday, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. They say the driver failed to stop at a stop sign.
The driver was eventually stopped, arrested and taken back to the police detachment in Stephenville where he provided breath samples that were alleged to be almost twice the legal limit.
The man’s licence was suspended, and his vehicle impounded. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16.
