The federal and provincial governments are teaming up with the Town of Placentia to build a new $7.8 million regional wellness centre.
The Government of Canada is contributing $2.6 million to the project through the Provincial Territorial Infrastructure Component – National Regional Projects.
The provincial government, meanwhile, will invest over $3.6 million with the town paying approximately $1.5 million.
“This new facility will expand access to healthy living and wellness activities by providing space for various community events and supporting recreational activities,” Placentia Mayor Bernard Power said in a news release issued by Infrastructure Canada announcing the project today, Wednesday, Dec. 19.
“The new centre will help promote Placentia as a place to live, grow and invest."
The project will add a new extension to the existing Unity Parc Arena, expanding the facilities to include a six-lane 25-metre pool, a family pool, fitness room, walking track, and multipurpose event room.
According to the release, the facility a variety of fitness and community programming will be offered at the facility, once it is up and running, allowing residents to participate in year-round activities, clubs and social events.
