Stephenville Winter Carnival 2019 kicks off

The 2019 Stephenville Winter Carnival got underway on Thursday evening with the lighting of the carnival torch, attended by this year’s ambassadors.

Vanessa Lee, carnival chairperson, said unfortunately for safety reasons they had to cancel a parade that was planned during to blustery conditions and high winds.

However, activities went ahead at the Stephenville Lions Club, including a presentation of Mi’kmaq drumming and singing by the White Wolf Spirit Drumming Circle; the serving of hot dogs and pop, along with the cutting of a carnival cake, which was shared around to those in attendance.

The carnival continues until Sunday night with the closing bonfire.
