Harbour Grace residents can expect to see very little change on their tax bills for 2019 compared to the previous year.
At the most recent regular meeting of council Monday night, Jan. 14, Coun. Kathy Tetford announced the town has adopted its tax structure for 2019, with no changes made compared to the tax structure used in 2018. She said tax bills should be in the mail to property owners by the end of this week. The current mill rate for both residential and commercial properties in Harbour Grace is 7.75 mills (the minimum charge is $350).
Tetford, who chairs the town’s finance committee, indicated there’s still some work to be done to finalize the budget for 2019. The tax structure was settled on following a pair of committee meetings held prior to a Dec. 21 special meeting of council where the tax structure was adopted, along with a new contract for unionized employees at the Danny Cleary Harbour Grace Community Centre.
Town CAO Michael Saccary said the committee was scheduled to meet on Wednesday, Jan. 16, to discuss the budget. The next regular meeting for Harbour Grace council is scheduled for Jan. 28.
