Following three moose vehicle accidents on the weekend, Bay St. George RCMP are reminding motorists to exercise caution when driving on the highway.

Police said in a prepared release that moose are more active at night and early morning and can be difficult to see, so remain alert and reduce your speed.

It was about 9 p.m. on Friday that Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a vehicle striking a moose on the Trans-Canada Highway near St. David's. There were no injuries or vehicle damage reported in that accident and the moose left the area.

At about 8 p.m. on Sunday, Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a vehicle striking a moose on Minnesota Drive in Stephenville. A passenger in the vehicle was taken to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital with minor injuries. The moose had to be put down by officers.

Almost an hour later, police received a report of a vehicle striking a moose on the Trans-Canada Highway near Robinsons. There were no injuries but the vehicle sustained major damage and the moose died.
