According to his death notice, he died following a short illness.

Mr. St. George was an engineer who, upon graduation in 1949, joined the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve) for a period of 12 years, achieving the rank of lieutenant.

He also began working at the paper mill in Corner Brook around the same time, retiring from the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper in 1990.

He was one of the driving forces behind the development of Marble Mountain. For the 19061-’62 season, he used his engineering prowess to build the ski hill’s first rope tow from salvaged parts sourced at the mill.

He would go on to be a longtime volunteer and president of the Corner Brook Ski Club, which was the governing body of Marble Mountain in its earlier days. After retiring, he took on the role of chairperson of the Marble Mountain Development Corporation.

A native of Deer Lake, Mr. St. George served on many boards and community organizations, including the Corner Brook Housing Authority, Boy Scouts of Canada, Roman Catholic School Board Building Committee, Community Concerts Association, Humber Rotary Club, Corner Brook Board of Trade, Corner Brook Heart Foundation, Humber Health Care Committee and the Humber Valley Development Association.

He served as a board member of the Deer Lake Airport Authority, chair of the Corner Brook Port Corporation, and board member/chair of the Victorian Order of Nurses, both locally and nationally.

He was also a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Western Newfoundland Naval Association

In terms of his professional career, Mr. St. George was awarded the Distinction of Fellow from the Engineering Institute of Canada in 1978.

In 2013, in recognition of his contributions to life in the Corner Brook area, he was named a recipient of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. St. George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Blanche, their six children and their families.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer in Corner Brook at 10 a.m. Monday morning. Friends may visit the family at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on St. Mark's Avenue from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
