BLAKELEY Laura Feb. 2, 1952 - Jun. 9, 2019 On Sunday, June 9th, 2019, Laura passed away at age 67 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Laura was born on February 2, 1952 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. She is survived by husband Eric, son Brent Mitchell, step-daughters, Alison Ste. Marie (Warren), and Nicole, her sister Zella Battiste (Joe), brother Selby and her grandchildren Rose and Sam Ste. Marie. She was predeceased by her father Selby Gough and mother Ida (Baldwin) Gough. Laura had a remarkable career as a manager in tech, at Newfoundland Tel. in St Mary's, Bell, an assignment in London, England with Cable and Wireless, Nortel and retiring in 2010 as a VP at Innovapost in Kanata. She had a true love of travel throughout her life. She and Eric explored Australia in a camper van, walked the Inca Trail in Peru, stood on the Great Wall of China, cruised across the Atlantic, lived like the locals in rented apartments in Paris and Nice and many, many more. Laura was an exceptional gourmet cook who loved to entertain, sew, golf and was a gifted ceramicist. She was known for her sincerity, hospitality, easy laughter, driven work ethic, and enthusiasm for life. Laura has requested there not be a funeral or memorial service. There will be a private gathering of family and friends later this summer. The family would like to thank Dr. Sinclair and team at the Civic, Doctors Nicholas and Chang at the General and Dr Uppal and staff at Saint-Vincent`s for all their support in her final days. This beautiful, talented, athletic, entertaining, and quirky woman has left us much too soon. She will be sadly missed by her family, Scottish relatives , extended family and many friends.
