Leo Buckley

It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Leo J. Buckley on October 3, 2018, at St. Clare’s Hospital, St. John’s, NL. Born July 12, 1937 to Esther (Howard) and Leo in St. John's, NL. Predeceased by sister, Barbara & brother, Richard. Loving and devoted husband to wife Florence, loving father to Rick (Sue), Kevin, Lesa (Steve), and Poppy to Justin, Luc, Nick, Seth, Ashlinn & Keira. Sadly, missed by siblings Esther & Jeanie. Remembered by the Buckley & Rose families. Poppy loved long walks in Corner Brook where he spent his working life for 30+ years. After retiring from his career of 43 years, and moving to St. John’s to be closer to family, he frequented Bowring Park where he met new and old buddies almost daily. He also enjoyed travelling the world: from visiting his son’s family in San Antonio, Texas to visiting New York, Bermuda, Hawaii, London, Venice, Dublin, Rome, Geneva, Paris and one of his favourite Worlds - Disney. Poppy was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He was a kind hearted-man who gave significantly to charities. He enjoyed the simple things such as reading Newfoundland literature, and with his granddaughters, visiting the Jewelry Store (Dollarama) and Dairy Queen for an ice cream. We would also like to thank Dr. Harrington and the nursing staff of 5th Floor East at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their loving and thoughtful care of Poppy over these past few months. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place from Corpus Christi Church on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. with inurment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
