Lois Patricia Butt (Ellsworth)

Lois Patricia Butt (Ellsworth)
Lois Patricia Butt passed peacefully away on Friday, September 14th, 2018 in the presence of her loving family at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 84. She was born in Meadows on January 17, 1934 and as a young child moved to Mount Moriah with her family, where she eventually met and married her husband Ned. She lived a full life and was well known and loved by her family and the community. She helped her parents run Ellsworth’s Store for many years. She was a very active member of the Curling Memorial United Church Women’s Group (where she had many treasured friends), a leader with Girl Guides of Canada, a Sunday school teacher, and a volunteer with Western Health, the Mount Moriah Recreation Committee, and with many local events. She was very giving and could be called upon at any time to do things for others, baking for those in hospital, students away from home or family members’ co-workers, knitting items to give to newborn babies or patients at the hospital, making her famous fudge to enrich friends’ holiday celebrations, and giving of herself in many other ways. She cherished the friendships with her fellow bowlers in the Oriana Senior Ladies Bowling League at the Corner Brook Centre Bowl. She was recognized by many for the thousands of miles of walks she took during her lifetime (when she would always have a pocket of treats for any lucky puppies she met along the way) especially those walks she took taking Kristina in her wheelchair. She loved cooking and baking, knitting, crafting, camping, and “going for a run” in the car with her family to explore the nooks and crannies of Newfoundland. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years, Edward (Ned) Butt, daughter Glenys (Darren Stone) and Darren’s sons Ian and Andrew, special nephews David Gillam (Morgan) and David Ellsworth, sisters Donna (Jim Gillam) and Molly Delaney, brothers-in-law Munden Butt, Mack Butt and Ted Feaver, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Mabel (Tillie) Ellsworth, special niece Kristina Gillam, brothers Melvin and Lawrence, sister Annetta (Nettie) Noseworthy, in-laws Munden and Marion Butt, Ina Eagan and Maxine Feaver. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home 218 Curling Street, Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 18th at 2 pm from the First United Church, Park Street with Reverend John van Vliet officiating followed by the interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation which granted a wonderful wish to her precious niece Kristina. The family guest book may be signed by visiting www.fillatre.ca.
