Our hearts are broken, Monday, May 7th, 2018. We lost a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, Stedman Leander Brophy, passed away at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, in his 84th year. Those of you that knew this man who was born in King's Cove, grew up in Port Saunders and settled in Daniel’s Hr, know that we lost a wonderful man. He was a fisherman, Seaman, hunter, logger, farmer, and a pilot of the skies. Leaving behind a legacy of success which instilled upon us the value of hard work and family ethics. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving devoted wife of 58 years, Effie nee Payne, his children: Marlene (Danny), Leander (Charlene), Geraldine (Ray), Melita (Ralph), Leslie (Paula), Byron (Jackie), and Nell (Dana), his grandchildren: Christopher, Candice, Justin, Jason, Demetri, Matthew, Jason, Jennifer, Katelyn, Jennifer, Brandon, and Dylan, his great-grandchildren: Natalie, Cameron, Daniel, Wyatt, and Caiden, his brother-in-law Kevin Payne (Rowena), also a large circle of nieces, nephews, and special family friend Doreen Lodge, and his caregiver Elaine Perry. Father was predeceased by his parents Stedman and Rose Brophy, sisters: Rosetta Robinson (George), Freda Biggin (Con), Dora Payne (Rendell) and Faith Sheppard (Max), parents-in-law James and Fanny Payne, brothers-in-law: Willie Payne, Rendell Payne, Max Payne, and Edgar Payne, sisters-in-law: Sadie Powell, Blanche Brown, Rachel Gushue, Mary Power, and Rhoda Payne. Special thanks to the staff and doctor’s of the Rufus Guinchard Long Term Care Facility and the Bonne Bay Health Centre. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made in Stedman’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The family will be receiving family and friends at the St. Mary’s the Virgin Anglican Church in Cow Head, NL, on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 from the hours of 7-9 pm, and continuing on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm, where also the Funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 10th, 2018, at 2 pm, with Canon Terry Rose officiating with the burial to follow at the church cemetery in Cow Head, NL To sign the guest book or send a message of condolence please visit our web page at www.parsonsfuneralhome.com.
