Grenfell Campus is a diverse community that welcomes students from all over the province, the country and the world. This semester, we brought friends, colleagues, mentors and friendly faces from more than 40 countries to beautiful Corner Brook. As a small campus that was established just under 50 years ago, that in itself is a huge accomplishment.

Because we are so proud of our diversity here, we make it a point to not only acknowledge it, but also celebrate it in every way we can. And when I mean “we,” I mean not only Grenfell Campus, but also the entire province. Every year, the Newfoundland and Labrador Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour recognizes the plethora of cultures that are shared by people that call this province home. Along with 18 other organizations, including the newly established Corner Brook office of the Association for New Canadians, we partnered with the provincial government to host a series of activities and events for everyone.

Here are some of the events that may be of interest to community members:

Multiculturalism Day at Colemans (March 22, 4:30-6:30 p.m.)

Meet international students from Grenfell Campus who will share recipes from their home countries. You will even be able to sample some of these dishes!

Films From Away: Hector and the Search for Happiness (March 22, 7 p.m.)

Bring the whole family to learn more about the story of Hector as he embarks on a global quest in hopes of uncovering the elusive secret formula for true happiness.

Multicultural Craft Fair (March 23,11 a.m.-2 p.m.)

Support students and artists from the province and around the world as they display beautiful crafts and objects, some of it for sale.

Multicultural Show at the Rotary Arts Centre (March 23,7-9 p.m.)
Join us for an evening of entertainment as students, staff, faculty and community members join together to present Grenfell Campus's 2018 Multicultural Show. Celebrate cultures and traditions from all over the world right here in Corner Brook. Our students have been working very hard to proudly feature their culture (whether they are from Newfoundland or elsewhere). Tickets are on sale at the Grenfell Campus Bookstore ($10 for general admission and $5 for students and children – cash only).

The full list of activities and events can be accessed online at http://www.grenfell.mun.ca/multiculturalism. Unless specified, all events are open to anyone and free of charge.

Patrick Arsenault is the international student programming coordinator at Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook
