Conflicts — many of us today have never and will never be involved in one. Leaders on both sides of any conflict/war still send our young to fight for a cause that may not be just.
Should we not remember all?
On Remembrance Day many of us true-blue Canadians will pay our token dollar or so, stick a poppy in our lapel just to be with the in crowd then beat it off to the cabin to take advantage of another long weekend.
The funds collected through the sale of poppies, how much of it gets to its intended purpose? How much of it is used up for the Remembrance Day celebrations at the local legion?
Newfoundland and Labrador will be forever scarred by the First World War and every conflict since, our young are still dying, young on the opposing side of conflicts are still dying and their mothers grieve for them, too.
Our young have fought and died but so have the young of many immigrants. Many are escaping war — that is why they are here.
Don Cherry, I don’t buy or wear a poppy so I guess I am one of “You people.”
You love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that.
In my opinion, people that have lost loved ones, family and friends through wars will remember them in their own special way and do not need a poppy pinned to their lapel.
