Adam Guy scored back-to-back goals with end-to-end rushes in the second period to help the Corner Brook Royals eke out a 6-3 wn over the Stephenville Jets Saturday night at the Corner Brook Civic Centre.
The two goals, a mere 43 seconds apart and the first one on the power play, proved to be the difference in the game as the Royals added a single marker in the third period to put the game out of reach as Royals goalie Brad Dyke proved to be flawless in the third period after giving up three goals in the middle period — Brad Lucas and Tim Caines scoring for the Jets — to get the visiting side even temporarily.
Caines scored his second goal of the game for the Jets, on a power play, with a quick snapshot beating Dyke on the blocker side as the Stephenville forward had the top part of the net wide open to shoot at with just under six minutes to play in the second period.
Ryan Meade opened the scoring for the Royals, lifting a wrist shot high under the crossbar after taking a nifty feed from Matt Colbourne who sifted a pass to the slot from behind the net with the game only 53 seconds old.
Luke Pilgrim, one of the more physical players for both sides, gave the Royals a 2-0 advantage when he banged home a loose puck during a goalmouth scramble 35 seconds into the second period as the Royals struck for an early marker once again.
Ian Pilgrim scored for the Royals with under two minutes left in regulation play to seal the deal for the Royals, who had to settle for another weekend split after losing to the Deer Lake Red Wings 5-1 one night earlier at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex in Deer Lake.
