A four-run sixth inning helped power the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks to a 6-4 triumph over the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces on Thursday night.
Ian Griffin was 2-for-3 in the win with an RBI and a run scored, while Ryan Hepditch was 2-for-4, also scoring a run and driving in another in the Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League win at Jubilee Field.
Greg Myrden led the way for the Aces, recording an RBI and a run scored in a 1-for-2 performance. Steve Hynes equaled that output while going 1-for-3.
Aaron Purcell Pilgrim was one of three pitchers seeing time on the mound for the Hawks, earning the win in the process. He went four innings, allowing one run on two hits, with three walks and a strikeout. Cory Lockyer pitched two innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits. He walked two and struck out three. Frank Humber delivered one inning for the victors, striking out one batter and surrendering one hit.
Steve Hynes suffered the pitching loss in a four-inning outing that saw him give up two runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked one. Keegan Deering allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits in his two innings of action, with three walks and a strikeout. Greg Whalen also pitched an inning, giving up two hits.
