Humber pitches win as Hawks edge Monarchs in Corner Brook Senior Baseball League play

Frank Humber scattered eight hits over seven innings on Sunday evening at Jubilee Field as the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks downed the West Side Monarchs 4-3.

Humber struck out five batters in the Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League triumph, giving up three earned runs.

Kevin Farrell was tagged with the loss in a six inning-effort that saw him surrender four runs (one earned) on seven hits, with four strikeouts.

Brad Penney had two RBIs and a run scored in a 1-for-2 outing. Ian Griffin was 2-for-3.

Steven Sheppard was 2-for-4 to lead the Monarchs, with two RBIs and a run scored.

In earlier action Sunday, the Wing’n It Marlins beat the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces 5-2.

Ryan Park scored twice in a 2-for-3 output in the win.

Steve Hynes equaled that feat in the losing cause.

Cameron Lafitte took the pitching loss after giving up five runs on four hits in three innings, with five walks and a strikeout.

Andrew Flood had the complete game win with five strikeouts and two runs allowed (neither earned) on five hits. He walked one batter.

On Friday night, the Marlins thumped the Monarchs 8-1.
