Marlins light up Monarchs in Corner Brook senior baseball play

Ryan Park was 3-for-3 and drove in six runs on Sunday as his Wing n’ It Curling Marlins trounced the West Side Monarchs 11-2 in play from the Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League.

Andrew Flood also had a strong day offensively, scoring three runs in a 3-for-4 showing at the dish.

Matt Colbourne was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

Sean Anderson pitched the complete-game victory, scattering nine hits over seven innings, with four strikeouts and a walk. Both runs he gave up were unearned.

Travis Taylor handled the lion’s share of the pitching work on the other side and took the loss for the Monarchs, allowing five runs — one earned — on five hits, with two walks and five strikeouts.

In other league action, the Veitch’s Ultramar Hawks beat the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces 4-1.

Frank Humber was the winning pitcher, striking out four and walking two over seven innings, allowing the one earned run.

Brian Bennett suffered the defeat with a four-inning shift that saw him allow four runs — three earned — on as many hits, with two strikeouts and a walk.

Darren Colbourne drove in a pair of runs and scored two more in a 2-for-2 outing that saw him walked once.

Greg Whalen scored the lone run for the Aces in a 2-for-4 outing overall.
