Everything was looking OK for the Veitch Physiotherapy Aces until the fifth inning.

Then it all kind of went downhill.

The West Side Monarchs exploded for five runs in the fifth en route to a 5-1 win over the Aces in Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League play on Tuesday night at Jubilee Field.

Jeff Gillam was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the win, while Braden Lockyer went 1-for-2 and cashed in with a run.

Greg Whalen was 1-for-1 in the losing cause, scoring the Aces’ lone run. Steve Kelly drove him home in a 1-for-3 outing.

Tyler Gardner threw six innings for the pitching decision, allowing one run on four hits, with two strikeouts and two walks. Noah Briffett tossed an inning, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Cameron Lafitte took the loss on the hill, surrendering three runs on four hits, with four walks and three strikeouts. Greg Myrden gave up two runs on as many hits, with two walks, in 1.2 innings of action.
