PORT AUX BASQUES, N.L. — The U16 boys softball team from Port Aux Basques earned a provincial title at the NL softball championships in Bay Roberts in July.
The Port aux Basques team defeated Portugal Cove 8-2 in the championship game for the win. They were also top team with the plus and minus record for runs for and against.
The team included eight players from Port aux Basques, two from the Codroy Valley and two from Isle Aux Morts.
Travis Mauger was named top player of the championship game. Pitcher Nicholas Davis had an impressive tournament as well. He pitched in every game and did not register one walk.
Coach Sheldon Street said he believe this is the first time Port aux Basques has ever won a Provincial U-16 tournament.
Eleven teams were featured at the event.
