Michael Tavenor struck out nine batters on Sunday to propel the Veitch Physio Aces past the West Side Monarchs 6-1 in Game 1 of the Corner Brook Molson Senior Baseball League at Jubilee Field.

Tavenor allowed one run on just three hits in his seven innings of work, with three walks.

Doug King racked up two RBIs and a run scored in a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while Steve Hynes went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Braden Lockyer took the loss for the Monarchs in a three-inning showing that saw him allow five runs (three earned) on three hits, with two walks and a strikeout. Kevin Farrell threw four innings, giving up a run on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Travis Taylor scored the Monarchs’ lone run while going 1-for-3. Lockyer was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
