The St. John’s Edge are one win away from advancing to the National Basketball League of Canada’s final.
The Edge, playing with a short bench, defeated the KW Titans 107-92 Tuesday night in Kitchener, Ont. to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Central Division final.
The Edge can wrap up the series and punch their ticket to the league championship series with a win Friday night at Mile One Centre.
Tuesday’s win comes on the heals of 103-96 and 97-86 losses in Kitchener last Friday and Sunday.
The Titans got off to quick start in front of the hometown crowd totalling 1,158, jumping out to an eight-point lead six-and-a-half minutes after the opening tipoff.
It’s the only lead the Titans would enjoy as the Edge went on a 13-2 run to finish off the first quarter.
The Edge played with nine players, including Satnam Singh, who played a total of 11 minutes in the playoffs prior to Tuesday’s game.
Singh saw a couple of minutes of floor time Tuesday.
Starting guard Dez Lee, who’s been hobbled through the post season, was scratched with an injury, and Olu Ashalou played with a dislocated thumb.
Glen Davis and Jarryn Skeete both scored 21 points for the Edge. Jared Nickens netted 17, Kitchener-area native Murphy Burnatowski scored 12 and Isaiah Tate added 11 points.
Friday’s tip-off is 7 p.m.
