A monster game from Danielle Hurley helped Whelan’s Gate polish off the Rapid Power Sports Bees in short order on Tuesday evening at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field, as they took them down 21-10 in just five innings.

Hurley was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and as many RBIs in the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League triumph. Katie Evans was also flawless at the dish, going 3-for-3, driving in five runs and scoring once. Kathy Lukeman crossed the plate four times and swatted in three more runs in a 3-for-4 outing. Peggy Colbourne went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Kayla Brake, Robyn Terry and Nicole Wells all went 2-for-3 in the losing cause for the Bees.

Despite the loss, Brake was on fire with five RBIs and two runs scored, while Wells cashed in three runs. Terry recorded an RBI.

Lorna Lovell had two RBIs and a run scored in a 1-for-1 effort.

Nikki Rose and Lukeman both saw time with the ball in the win, with Rose scattering six hits over three innings, with five walks and a strikeout. Lukeman gave up three hits and two walks in a two-inning performance.

Wells surrendered 15 hits and 16 walks over five innings, with a strikeout in the loss.

Remarkably, the second half of the double-header, later in the evening, also ended with the Gators winning 21-10 in five innings.
