Jordan Kennedy admits there was a lot of disappointment among the group when they lost in the 2107 Herder final on a controversial winning goal.

It still carries some sting when he thinks about losing on a goal that clearly went under the net and not through the net, but it’s not something the Clarenville Caribous wish to dwell on with the team heading to the 2018 Herder final after disposing of the Gander Flyers in five games in the Central West Senior Hockey League final.

“We got a bit of a sour taste in our mouths from losing last year, but it kind of motivates us more for this year to play harder and hopefully not have the same happen,” Kennedy said Monday from the east coast.

Kennedy expects his team will be ready to tangle with whoever earns the right to represent the East Coast Senior Hockey League in the best-of-seven Herder showdown that gets underway in two weeks at the Clarenville Events Centre.

The St. John’s Capitals and Southern Shore Breakers are tied at two games apiece in the East Coast Senior Hockey League best-of-seven final series. The winner earns a date with the Caribous in the Herder final.

The guys don’t talk about last year’s disappointing ending. However, Kennedy expects it will be come up in conversation when the Herder rolls around and he expects the herd to be pumped for another shot and won’t be taking any opponent lightly.

Winning a Herder is something every senior hockey player thrives for when he suits up in a senior hockey league in this province and Kennedy isn’t an exception.

He wants to win a Herder and he believes the Caribous can make it happen this year.

Kennedy is a tenacious forward who brings energy and enthusiasm. He is a guy most teams hate to play against but would love to have him on their side.

Don’t expect anything less from the 23-year-old forward.

“I’ll just keep playing my game and everybody keep doing their job hopefully we can go away with a Herder,” said Kennedy, a mechanical engineering technology program at College of the North Atlantic in St. John’s.
