The Town of Deer Lake held Hockey Night in Deer Lake at the Hodder Memorial Recreation Complex in Deer Lake on Monday night as a kick for the 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games being in the community March 10-18.
Earlier in the day, new logos, medals and a mascot were unveiled during a ceremony at the Deer Lake Motel.
The events had a special guest of honour as National Hockey League Hall of Famer NHL Paul Coffey was in town to help with the celebrations.
After a game featuring town’s novice clubs, a group with Coffey, fellow NHL alumni Darren Langdon, Premier Dwight Ball and other special guests hit the ice to take on the Deer Lake Devils, who are the host Games team on the male hockey side.
