Josh Shears found the back of the net three times on Tuesday evening to propel the Elwood High Lakers to an 11-3 romp over the Stephenville High Spartans in West Coast High School Hockey League play at the Stephenville Dome.
Drew Langdon and Skyler Coates both chipped in with a pair of makers apiece, while Colton Bishop, Elliott Dicks, Jonathon Park and Brett Urquhart also lit the lamp for the victors.
Brady Marche (2), and Nick Butt did the damage in the loss.
Shears scored two of his goals in the first period, with two more coming from Langdon and Bishop, as the visitors built an imposing four-goal lead in the opening stanza.
Four more goals followed in the second period, from Langdon, Dicks, Coates and Park, to put the Lakers up by eight.
To their credit, the Spartans didn’t pack it in, as they actually started to rally in the third period with three straight goals to cut the deficit to 8-3.
That was as close as they’d get however, as the Lakers scored three times in the final four minutes to salt the game away.
Marcus Foster picked up the win in net, with Carter Penton getting charged with the loss.
