The Luxury Limo Rangers completed the sweep on Tuesday night — and this one wasn’t even close.
The Rangers filled the net six times in the opening half and never looked back as they steamrolled the Gros Morne Wildlife Museum Gulls 8-1 in Game 3 of the best-of-three Corner Brook Molson Ball Hockey League final at the Kinsmen Arena II.
Mark Gillis was on a mission to claim the Neary Cup early, scoring the first three Rangers’ goals within the game’s first six minutes. That hat trick was bookended by another hat trick from Steve Simms, who scored the Rangers’ last three goals. Steve Hobbs and Jeremy Bishop also found the back of the net for the victors.
Roger Snow provided the lone celebratory moment for the Gulls, making it 2-1 at a time when the final result was still in question.
Gillis’ first goal came 44 seconds into the game, from Simms and Hobbs. He followed it up with another at 12:25, with Simms and Dewy Lovell drawing the helpers.
That’s when Snow struck for the Gulls, at 10:08, to make it a one-goal game. Jonny Anderson picked up the assist.
From there, it was all Rangers, starting with Gillis’ third of the game, at 9:10, from Simms and Bishop.
Hobbs lit the lamp at 5:54 to make it 4-1, from Bishop and Gillis, before Bishop scored himself, with Gillis notching the assist.
Simms capped the period with a goal with 32 seconds remaining, from Bishop.
Simms recorded his second goal of the game at 14:06 of the second, from Gillis, before the scoring mercifully ended at 8:08, with Simms scoring again. The assist went to Bishop.
Adam Hicks earned the goaltending win over Ricky Lushman.
